We only craft with sustainable certified timber from Australian plantations that undergo rigorous examination to ensure the harvesting practices are eco-friendly. All of our timber is greenhouse positive and has a far lower net environmental impact than other 'faux' green materials such as veneer, engineered wood and others that use harsh chemicals and emission heavy processes to produce. We keep it short, simple & sustainable.
We source our materials locally which allows us to minimise emissions and ensure a short supply chain. If you buy from overseas, it brings with it a much heaver carbon footprint as it had a much further journey to be processed and transported to you. We pride ourselves in being Australian owned & operated. Supporting us means you are supporting domestic industry in the face of giant corporations where all profits go off-shore.
We pride ourselves in minimizing waste through efficient craftmanship & intentional design. Any off-cuts or remaining organic material accrued from the construction process is further reused or recycled to be given a second life. We don't pay a percentage of our profits to 'plant trees' while not actually taking action for ourselves. Sustainability is actually embedded into our business practices because we respect and care for the environment
As a nation we contribute to over 20 million tonnes of landfill each year (ABS), we can reduce our carbon footprint by being environmentally conscious when making purchases of household goods. By choosing our carefully constructed products we ensure that people are given products that are built to last and carry out our mission of being environmentally conscious for future generations.
Did you know that the energy required to product a single kilogram of steel is the equivalent of 10,000 trees? By choosing our sustainable products you are making a huge difference.
The Engineered Wood Products Association of Australasia (EWPAA) is a nationally recognised organisation which certified that our Australian suppliers of hardwoods adhere to the Australian Forestry Certification Scheme which is endorsed by the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) in accordance with the internationally recognised PEFC ST 2002:2013 standards.
Our suppliers are all certified by the EWPAA (AS 4707:2014) and are committed to adhering to environmentally conscious practices. This is what we mean by certified sustainable timber. To learn more about PEFC and their goal to incite change within the wood furniture supply chain click here.
To begin with, our designs are made efficiently as possible to reduce the amount of organic byproduct when cutting, finishing and crafting each piece. We further reuse and recycle organic matter such as woodchips, shavings and offcuts to be separated and remade into veneers, MDF boards or other building materials to be used in our factory again or donated to local businesses. Since we don't outsource or manufacture overseas, we have control over our strict processes from start to finish. That's the Haven House difference.
